Candlesticks — bodies, wicks & meaning

Every candle is a story about who won the fight between buyers and sellers.

Parts of a candle

Body = distance between open and close. Wick = the extremes reached during the period. A long lower wick means sellers pushed price down but buyers reclaimed it.

What to notice

Big body, tiny wicks = strong conviction. Long wick against the trend = rejection. Doji (no body) = indecision at that price.

Context is everything

The same candle at support means something totally different than at resistance. Read the location first, then the candle.

Key takeaways
  • Bodies show conviction, wicks show rejection.
  • One candle in isolation means little.
  • Location > pattern. Always.
  • Doji = pause, not a signal by itself.
